Bob’s your uncle

I’ve been trying to understand more about who I am and where I come from, and I recently did the ancestry.com thing to get a better handle on my heritage. I decided to take those individual results and try to learn to cook a traditional food or plate from each cultural heritage. I chose to start with the easiest and and largest DNA proportion of who I am, which is southern English.

So after extensive research (aka, Google), I decided to make a tradtional English dish called Toad in the Hole. Sounded so delicious, right? It’s sausage baked into a type of English bread pudding, and it also meant I had to make an onion gravy, and I’ve never made any kind of gravy ever, so it was going to be a challenge regardless. I went to Publix and the World Market in South Charlotte to get the various items I’d need, and then drove back up to Wilmore to get to work on it.

I did it! It was very good. After baking it and serving it up I watched some history of England documentaries on Amazon and then some Sherlock. Get in touch with your past!
